As part of our annual training programme we have worked closely with Tom and his company T McAdams Security Training Solutions, in a number of areas including Hostile Environment Training, First Aid, Close Protection, Country Specific Briefings etc.
Tom has become an integral and valuable element to our training, as he brings a lifetime of personal operational experience, which really does bring a strong element of ‘reality’ to every event we attend.
Tom has gained a strong reputation within BT, as he is always able to structure the training events to suit our own unique requirements i.e. telecommunication people, operating in specific hostile environments.
Candidate Feedback August 2024:
The Diploma Level 4 course (practical and theoretical) was outstanding in all aspects for an ab initio UAV pilot like me.
Joining the August course (7-11 Aug) at short notice condensed extensive pre-course online training, more so given the time it took to gain pre-requisite proof of funding to register for and access online pre-course training material. Despite my concerns about the condensed schedule, my instructor (Jamie) assured me that the theory phase would recap the nub of online training material. Burning the midnight oil did me no harm though!
Once underway, the course’s pacey flow to recap salient training material was about right. The instructor (Jamie) condensed learning material and proffered online sources to ease mission planning, and relayed extensive practical examples to highlight best practice required to operate UAV anywhere, which certainly benefitted me. The 2-phase theory, capped by instructor check of understanding helped me ingest and recall extensive information.
Having never flown a UAV, the practical flying training and practice sessions using training-provider UAVs for near uninterrupted flying enabled by on-site support staff was exceptional. The operating site west of Stafford was ideal; the domestic facilities simplified practical training in light field conditions. Excellent. Atop the basic flying training and assessment, the instructors offered hands-on experience of FPV micro-UAV flying, a virtual UAV simulator, and exampled how potential clients could monitor in-flight UAV sensor imagery remotely. Jamie also relayed examples of commercial UAV operations. As ever, his advice to network and share work to simplify and expand business was key.
Atop the baseline theory and practical UAV flying training, exampling commercial applications of UAV operations amplified the utility of the course to a Service leaver like me. Without reservation, I would highly recommend this Diploma Level 4 course to anyone, either on resettlement as a Service leaver like me, or to others wishing to gain the qualification using Enhanced Learning Credits. The experience I gained from the course, not just a qualification has allowed me to assume my current role in Libya, without Tom’s mentoring, guidance and follow up advice I may not been as successful.

I would not hesitate in recommending the Close Protection courses run by Tom to anyone wishing to work in the Private Security industry. I did my CP course with Tom; he was also responsible for getting me my first job in Close Protection.
T McAdams Security Training Solutions have Approved Learner Provider status for our Close Protection courses and First Response Emergency Care Level 3 (RQF) course, enabling service leavers to claim back 80% of the Close Protection and First Response Emergency Care course costs (excluding food and accommodation) from the MoD as part of their resettlement package.
